The Australian Bio-Dynamic Research Institute (BDRI) was formed in Powelltown, Victoria, in 1955.
The BDRI was vested with the rights and supervision of the Demeter trademark in Australia in 1967, and is the only organisation in Australia approved to certify farmers under the Demeter logo.
The BDRI is accredited by the Australian Government as an Organic Approved Certifying Organisation.
The Australian Demeter symbol indicates produce has been grown and processed according to the standards of the Bio-Dynamic Research Institute, using environmentally friendly, ecologically safe, biological methods to activate and nurture the life of the soil, plants and animals within natures organisation, without the use of artificial or synthetic chemicals, fertilisers, genetically modified organisms or the use of any unnecessary additives. – Bio-Dynamic Research Institute
Australian Demeter bio-dynamic certification is available to any grower that meets the requirements of:
- the ‘National Standard for Organic and Bio-Dynamic Produce’ (which can be downloaded from the Department of Agriculture website), and
- ‘The Australian Demeter Bio-Dynamic Standard’ (available as a PDF download from the BDRI website).
If a grower believes they meet these requirements, they can apply to BDRI for registration to use the Demeter BD trademark.
Further information and application forms can be found on the BDRI website.
